Bea Gibson

Profile/CV

The majority of my paintings are urban landscapes, with London as my main inspiration. I wanted to capture my London life, with a focus on places which are often overlooked by artists but loved by Londoners. I have a traditional approach to art, predominantly working in oils, using palette knives and brushes to create texture and depth. There is a painterly quality to my work which helps convey the atmosphere of the scene I’m illustrating, whether it be the excitement and anticipation as the sun sets before a gig in Brixton, or a peaceful sunrise on Primrose Hill.

I work in oil and various other mediums. I feel most inspired by watching bands performing live, the strangely different colour, interesting set designs and most importantly how the singer moves around the stage - engaging with the audience - drawing us in. I capture these moments working in oil or mixed media. I often use lyrics from bands I’ve seen and work them into the picture, summing up the exhilaration and escapism of live music.
