The Wilson, Cheltenham's art gallery and museum, contains four floors of exciting redeveloped gallery spaces showcasing touring exhibitions, permanent collections, and events.
The Wilson, Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum was opened to the public on the 5th October 2013, after a major new build costing in the region of £6 million. Designed by architects Berman Guedes Stretton, the award-winning new building offers something for everybody, whether they are local to the area, or coming to Cheltenham for the first time. The Wilson houses an extensive fine art collection, a re-interpreted Arts and Crafts gallery (showing the world-renowned designated collection), and includes two superb temporary exhibition galleries – for showing national and international touring shows, special highlights from the collections and fun shows for families.
The Wilson is also the new home for the town’s tourism services - with the re-location of Cheltenham’s Tourist Information Centre to the Art Gallery & Museum.
Access to The Wilson’s permanent museum collections is at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is to inspire people to enjoy and learn from Cheltenham’s unique collections, exhibition programmes, and formal and informal learning opportunities – and to make these accessible to a diverse audience through living stories of exploration, creativity and innovation. The Wilson’s permanent museum collection informs and inspires all our other activities – from touring exhibitions; to adult, family and schools learning activities and programming; to temporary displays; to partnership displays and exhibitions. Our varied approach to programming is designed to appeal to a wide audience and inspire debate and engagement with art, culture and our collections - as well as collections not usually available to the general public.
