Profile/CV

Catherina Zavodnik was born on 6 September 1975 in Ljubljana. She holds a Master’s Degree in Painting (2008), a Master’s in Traditional Graphic Art (printmaking) (2003) , and Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design (2000) at Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design. Between 2000 and 2004 she upgraded her graphics knowledge in Urbino, Italy.

After having been accepted to the most prestigious public call of artists in Northern Europe with her painting September among more than 3000 works of art from the entire world, namely to the Forårsudstillingen/Spring Exhibition 2011 in Kunsthal Charlottenborg (Copenhagen, Denmark), Catherina continues her artistic path with a different, much more feminine and subtle energy. Northern light left her a dream. Beauty, poetics and seduction. 

Her painting was also included into the collection for sale at Kunstbiblioteket, the Art Library in the same city. Since november 2011 is in a private collection in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In Slovenia and abroad she participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, recently Broken Boundaries (Rogue Studios Chelsea, New York, 2012), Prayer for Tsunami Victims (ArtLab Galleri, Stockholm, 2012), Spring Exhibition (Kunsthalle Charlottenborg , Copenhagen, 2011), V. International Graphic Art Biennial Split (2011), Landscape in modern art, from abstract to pictorialism ( Galerija Velenje, 2011), International Printmaking Biennial - Douro (Portugal, 2010), It´s a Woman world of graphics (Galerija Rika Debenjaka, Bovec Cultural Centre, 2010 ). 

In her works of art the terms such as the feminine, the mystic, the exciting and the primeval are touched. Her painting spaces are pure endlessness and unidentified dualities, which seem both new beginnings and ends at the same time. Of a waving nature in their scope, but simultaneously “left alone” in the moment.

Similarities with historical examples are thus subconsciously made advantage of, helping her to discover a specific continuity in her own understanding of thinking that is experienced during painting.

She comprehensively interweave all of her artistic passions and knowledge into the planning and execution of her visual art projects. Various creative techniques democratically take part in her visual art expression. Her work is characterized by a high-level of poeticism and aesthetisation. 

In her works she strive for purity, light and affection.

Since 2002 she has been a member of Ljubljana Fine Artists Society (since 2011 also PR editor for their Facebook group) and a registered independent artist at Slovenian Ministry of Culture under No. 2840.
