I’ am interested in the crisis of images in our contemporary visual culture. A crisis also of meaning, taking place through the omnipotence of digital images.
In a way an invasion of images has occurred, a colonization of the imaginary in which socially and personally we struggle for control.
Images, like nomads, migrate across cultural and historical boundaries at the speed of light, forcing us to adjust our perception. As encoded messages images allow our society to legitimate itself by rooting itself in the obviousness of the visible. Today's images create a total confusion of encoded meanings.
I combine contradictory visual languages, and media in my paintings in order to open up a space in which this crisis of legitimation can appear.
