Eileen Cooper Biography - ArtLyst
Eileen Cooper was born in 1953 in Glossop,Derbyshire, England. She studied at Goldsmiths College, London from 1971 to 1974 and at the Royal College of Art between 1974 - 1977. Cooper befriended the artist Ken Kiff, (1935-2001) who taught at the Royal College in the 1970's and 80's and was profoundly influenced by his work.
Eileen Cooper is one of the major British figurative artists who emerged in the mid 1980's. Her tender,stylised paintings of women and couples are concerned with the fundamental human processes of birth, growth and nourishment. Her pictures often feature stylized animals and plant life expounding the placement of humanity within nature.
Cooper currently teaches printmaking at The Royal College of Art London.
In 2001 she was elected Royal Academician.
