Profile/CV

Fiona Curran is currently studying for a PhD at The Slade School of Fine Art, she read Philosophy at The University of Manchester before completing a BA and MA from the Manchester School of Art in 2001, her paintings, collages and installations conjure up imagined spaces that play with notions of the natural and the artificial, utopia and dystopia. Curran is interested in the effect of advances in technology on our sense perception as we increasingly encounter the world through screen images that inundate us with saturated colour due to the presence of light behind and within the screen.

Recent projects include solo shows at Chapter Gallery, Cardiff (2010), MAC, Birmingham (2007) and Cornerhouse Projects, Manchester (2007); group shows - The Tatton Park Biennial (2010) and The Guasch-Coranty International Painting Prize, Barcelona (2010); a site-specific commission for Vital Arts at The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel (2009) and a one-year international artist's residency at The Florence Trust, London.
