Gala Knörr



Gala Knörr (b. 1984, Vitoria-Gasteiz) is a multidisciplinary artist who has worked in painting, photography and video. In 2010 she won Emergencias 2.0 from Obra Social Caja Madrid, and soon after relocated to London. Establishing her studio through Cell Projects, she was one of the 3000 artists crowd-sourced by Nicola Formichetti (DIESEL) via Tumblr to be exhibited at Galeries Lafayette in Paris. In 2014 she worked as an artist educator at Saatchi Gallery and was selected for the Columbia Threadneedle Prize 2014. Knörr was awarded a residency Cité Internationale des Arts during their 50th anniversary year joining the ranks of previous residents including Louise Bourgeois, Philippe Parreno, and Serge Gainsbourg. 

She has supported different activist campaigns directed by Maximilla Lukacs and The Department of Peace for the Rainforest Alliance 'Earth Day' campaign in 2013, and the 2014 Joan Jett Public Service Announcement dealing with income equality and women's health issues. She has also worked as an editorial photographer and her work has been featured on NAU NUA, Crush Fanzine, Vanidad, Artmisto, GQ Ukraine and ELPAIS. In 2016 she has been awarded the CREADORES 2016 grant and artist residency from La Térmica Centro de Cultura Contemporanea in Málaga.

She is currently an artist-in-residence at Fundación Bilbaoarte Fundazioa in Bilbao.
