Gane's photographic work deals with broad theoretical concerns largely through reference to his family and immediate domestic space. In addition to an underlying inquiry into the nature of the photographic medium, grand themes such as birth, death and memory are allegorically addressed in work punctuated with art historical and contemporary cultural references. His work has been exhibited widely in a number of solo and group shows, most notably Unreliable Truths: Transformation and Illusion in Contemporary Photographic Practice at the Glynn Vivian Gallery, a solo exhibition Apron at Mission Gallery and the internationally touring exhibition Sitting Room.
