Jane Bartlett

Jane Bartlett is a British artist whose work ranges from photography to paper-based sculptural forms. A recurring theme in her work has been the body and the thresholds where different conceptualisations of the body meet; where, for instance, the body as type gives way to the body as individual identity. Or where manipulations of the image of the body or face push identity beyond the corporeal and into territories of the unconscious - the body of perfection or the body declining towards decay and putrefaction. It is here that a grounding in the physical falls away and identity becomes an out of body construct within the economy of image values.
