John Clair is a graphic portrait artist who has been especially focused in developing and improving his talent in recent years following a period of depression in 2007. Whilst he has been an active practitioner since childhood, the outcome of his personal difficulty gave him a renewed vigour to pursue a career in the arts.
His process involves making highly detailed pencil drawings that are taken from photographs before working on top of the original graphite drawing using black fine liner and brushed inks to create the final image. It can often take in excess of 70 – 100 hours to complete his work.
He has exhibited across East London at the Espacio Bethanl Green, Brick Lane Gallery and regularly featured at SHowcase Cities at Richmix, Bethnal Green. He is also part of the Debut Contemporary artist programme and is exhibiting work at their gallery in Westborne Grove. He has also, in his home borough of Walthamstow, organised and curated a group exhibition entitled MOVEMENT:Walthamstow with more events planned for the near future.
