Kira Phoenix K'inan

Kira Phoenix K’inan lives in London and has been working as a mixed media artist for the past ten years. She recently graduated from the Royal College of Art (RCA), specializing in glass, where she developed a new glass drawing technique.

Glass Drawings, developed at the Royal College of Art, are first and foremost an expression of my own personal journey of thoughts, words, ideas and my ever-changing surroundings made physical through each line that interconnects with another. Each image becomes an abstract vision of my surroundings and each work grows out of the one before in intricacy, depth, colour and rhythm.”

K’inan has also created a line of slip cast tableware from glass off-cuts that were on display to the public at Sketch Restaurant, London and Ceramics Art London 2015.

K’inan is relatively new to glass having studied sculpture, photography and performance at Central St. Martins for her degree. She will be undertaking a four-month residency at Konstfack University, Stockholm, Sweden in the New Year to develop the glass drawing technique.

K’inan has always been interested in the relationship between the artist and the drawing, and how a drawing can immediately express a feeling or thought. For K’inan drawing is not limited to paper and pencils, it includes drawing machines, drawing with light using a camera and most recently glass drawings.

K’inan has exhibited regularly in London and has been invited to exhibit at the annual glass exhibition at Parndon Mill this summer and Flow Gallery.

Alongside K’inan’s artistic practice, she also works as a creative mentor and runs Creative Expressionism workshops that focus on drawing as a way of expressing oneself.
