Imagine You Are Everyone Everywhere at Once and Everything Seen, Heard, Said or Done
Is By and For and To You
Call for Participants
Are you interested in theatre, social media and freedom of expression?
Want to meet and collaborate with likeminded people on a groundbreaking new performance?
Drawn to a unique opportunity to perform with a cast of 139 actors, activists and ordinary citizens?
You might be just the person we’ve been looking for!
Imagine You Are Everyone… is a theatrical response by director Stewart Melton to the recent arrest and continued persecution of Ai Weiwei. Inspired by Ai’s subversive use of Twitter, an immense cast of 139 ordinary citizens will voice the shout outs, retweets, heated discussions and random interactions of our linked-in, online society. Combining movement and poetry, this unique performance event asks: What is freedom of expression?
We are looking for 139 speakers and we are keen to recruit adult volunteers of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities to present the play to the public – we want the cast to be a true reflection of our ‘online society’. Participants will perform very simply, script-in-hand like a choir, each taking the focus for a moment or so to say a few short tweet-like lines and to make slow, gentle gestures and movements. This is a great opportunity for people of all levels of performance experience to come and make theatre together in solidarity with Ai Weiwei and other silenced voices around the world.
The play will be rehearsed and performed at The Yard, an exciting new pop-up venue in Hackney Wick. The Yard is committed to risk-taking, boundary-pushing theatre that respects, challenges and entertains its audience. Built in a dormant warehouse from recycled materials, it sits by the canal opposite the Olympic Park, about 5 minutes from Hackney Wick station.
We will rehearse the piece in one day and perform it on five evenings over the course of one week. Performers MUST be available for ALL rehearsals and performances.
· Wednesday 3rd August: Induction workshop, 7.30pm – 9.30pm
· Sunday 7th August: Rehearsal, 10am – 6pm
· Tuesday 9th – Saturday 13th August: Performances, meeting at 7pm to perform 8pm – 10pm
All involved are volunteering their time for free as the project is not for profit and our budget is modest.
For further information and to register your interest please contact Stewart or Lauren at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 5pm on Wednesday 27th July.
