Leopold van de Ven

His work is based on the concept of space with the intention to make a
stand against space. By making sculptures, wall sculptures and spacial
settings as comment on the space in general or which they are installed.
Materials he works with are wood, papier-mache, sheet materials and waste
materials as well. Mediums such as photography and collage are also often
part of the work process.

Art review;
Leopold van de Vens wall relief works are a testament to his appreciation
for shred and  paste collage. Applying the building-from-parts methodology,
the Dutch artist mixes his own material from scratch.Shredded cardboard
and newspaper, papier mache and the odd bit of white paint resolved in a
recycled canvas; not quite a drawing of marks and only gently asserting its
lumpy surface as sculptural. Bleached neutral in palette and attached to an
equally pale gallery wall, these solid, yet soft looking things comment on
the white cube space seemingly coming out of, as opposed to within the
space in which they are installed. Maintaining the care and deliberation of
van de Vens more traditionally formal works, these wall relief works start
to speak on their own terms.
