I was born in Co.Wexford, Ireland and have a degree in Fine Art Painting from Limerick School of Art. Limerick, Ireland. I moved to London in 1999 and still reside there.
In my paintings I want to transform reality, mix it with memories and my subconscious and paint my interpretation of it. My landscapes are influenced by my childhood in Ireland, the history and folklore and my regular visits there. On these visits I gather information in the form of sketches and photographs which I later use as a starting point for my paintings. As I paint I like to exaggerate colours and apply layer upon layer of paint to create heavily textured mysterious scenes which capture the beauty, ruggedness and magical quality I see in the Irish lanscape.
I also want to create a sense of mystery in my interiors by painting spaces which are unrecognisable and filling them with forms which imply a human presence but could just be inanimate objects. The title sometimes gives a hint as to what the painting is about but I want to make the viewer curious; to ask what is happening here and for them to come to their own conclusions.
