Michael Stevenson’s drawings are somewhat of a solitary pursuit. Guided and inspired by others photography he is learning from every line he draws. He tries to draw what he would want on his own walls, this way he can reflect a little bit about himself in the art. He aids his drawings by following current trends and fashion. Each new drawing is a learning curve and he wants every new piece to be bigger and more seductive than the last.
Michael's process is traditional; building from sketch, he prefers the simpliticty of black line, smudge and white space. With an Architecture degree and fine eye for detail, Michael has an acutely contemporary style. His intricate portraits often take an extra large form and conceptualizing a certain social premise that you might feel in the air of a underground New York nightclub in the Bronx.
