Peter Doig Biography - ArtLyst

Peter Doig emerged during the early 1990s with his distinctive approach to figurative painting.

Born in Edinburgh, he moved in 1962 when his family emigrated to Trinidad. His father worked with a shipping and trading company,which saw him move again in 1966 to Canada.

He went to London in 1979 to study art at the Wimbledon School of Art, St Martin's School of Art (where he became friends with Billy Childish) and later the Chelsea School of Art, where he received an MA.

In the middle 1980s he lived and worked in Montreal.

Peter Doig's work is in international collections including Arts Council of Great Britain

Interesting Fact: Chris Ofili and Peter Doig have lived and worked since the early 2000s on the Southern Caribbean island of Trinidad.
