My work contains both obvious and subtle references to the anthropology of ancient civilizations, the spaghetti westerns of Sergio Leone, alternative American underground and slacker culture of the 1980s and 1990s. It also references ghost-towns, curio ephemera, Krautrock music of the 1960s and 1970s, post-apocalyptic sci-fi films, the occult as viewed second-hand through the work of Kenneth Anger and Alejandro Jodorowsky, half-arsed make-do childhood den making and classroom humour. These elements become intertwined and their meaning mangled, producing effects that are sometimes absurd, funny, dark or mysterious, depending on the piece. The work will often become realised as make-shift ceremonial relics or ritualistic hang-outs.
