After studying classical piano, violin and vocal while attending a music/theatre school in her younger years, Siobhán continued her creative studies at BealArt in London, Ontario and finished her degree in Fine Art at Crawford College of Art & Design in Cork, Ireland. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America before settling in Vancouver in 2001.
In 2003, she moved into the ARC (Artist Resource Centre) and was instrumental in developing a gallery space there as well as initiating the long running annual group exhibition (alongside neighbour and photographer, Wendy D). She participated in the Eastside Culture Crawl from 2003 to 2007, then again in 2009 and volunteered on the Marketing Committee from 2008 to 2010.
Siobhán’s art has been exhibited in over sixty solo and group exhibitions in commercial, artist-run and public galleries and is in corporate and private collections in North America, Britain, Europe and Australia. She is the recipient of a City of London Arts Bursary, Ontario Arts Council and BC Arts Council grants, and most recently a Pollock Krasner Foundation fellowship in conjunction with the Byrdcliffe Guild Residency Program in New York. She has been featured on City TV Vancouver & Calgary, the Vancouver Sun and CBC Radio’s ‘Art’s Report’.
She is currently the Artist in Residence for the long standing program at Ranger Station Art Gallery run by the Kent Harrison Arts Council in Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia. This is a one year appointment during which time Siobhán will be working toward a solo exhibition at the gallery as well as proposals and ideas for other shows, writing and recording music and getting lost in photographic possibilities!
In addition to her Visual Art career, Siobhán has worked tirelessly to help promote the arts by teaching art classes, hosting reading and movie nights, plays, pop-up restaurants and home concerts. She writes a blog (www.humstonstudios.wordpress.com)which highlights her own art practice and ideas around living creatively and outside the box as well as www.stemandwing.wordpress.com which shows some of her design off-side projects. She is an avid reader, collector of art, books and musical instruments.
SIOBHAN is represented in Vancouver at the VANCOUVER ART GALLERY Art Rental & Sales Department www.artrentalandsales.com in Calgary with HERRINGER KISS GALLERY www.herringerkissgallery.com & in Toronto with PARTS GALLERY www.partsgallery.ca.
