Sue Kennington
Profile/CV
Sue Kennington is a London born painter whose work addresses the use of colour and human touch as an expressive medium. In her work she investigates how the non-systematic, non-mediated can generate new ideas – and how close she can get to an unravelling of paint and image – without completely abandoning the implausible faith we had/have/will still have in objects and systems…. …this and trying to embody a particular glowing light, working with colour, that catapults everything unexpectedly into the realm of possibility. . The method (or non method) used to make these paintings is a kind of metaphor for the subject matter, both embody a certain incoherent belief, that is manifest in the act of painting.
Sue Kennington received her MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, London in 2002, and her BA from Chelsea in 1994. In 1996 her work featured in ‘Newcontemporaries’ at Tate Liverpool and the Camden Arts Centre, London, and she had her first solo show in the UK at the Lanchester Gallery, Coventry in 1997. Recent exhibitions include: ‘Frame Structure’ at Galleria la Veronica, Modica, Sicily, 2007 : the Finalists show - Premio Celeste 2006 Florence, and a group show in Hoxton, London ‘Pure Painting’.
