Tony Scrivener was born in London in 1972, and studied at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design, Epsom graduating in 2003.
Drawing on ideas and themes often relating to personal experiences, Tony Scrivener's paintings reflect a consistent desire to resurrect and comment on the faded and overlooked aspects of London. Stating: “Living in the environment I draw inspiration from, has a direct impact on my methods of working. For reasons unknown I feel the need to resurrect and comment on the city I live in”.
With a consistent need to tell the story the captitals inhabitants past and present, whether known to the artist or not. These stories are retold in Tony’s work through careful assemblages and appropriations of the artists’ observations. His work uses a broad range of materials in his work, both traditional and untraditional.
Tony Scrivener has exhibited in group shows with the London art collective, Artists Who … , at both Trispace Gallery, Bermondsey and Espacio Gallery, Shoreditch. Most recently he was selected by the I Know What I Like arts facilitation organisation to exhibit during October 2014 at the Curious Duke Gallery, London EC1. He is also an active associate member of the Studio 1.1 Gallery, Shoreditch and associate member of Banner Repeater Gallery, Hackney.
