Uriel Orlow’s artworks explore blind spots of representation and investigate the spatial and pictorial conditions of history and memory. He works across media in video, photography, sound and drawing and creates modular, multi-media installations that bring archival research and different image-regimes, narrative modes and contemplation into correspondence.
Uriel Orlow is a multi-disciplinary Swiss visual artist, writer, educator and sometime curator who lives and works in London and Zurich. He studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and The Slade School of Art, London and philosophy at the University of Geneva and received his PhD in Fine Art in 2002. He was the recipient of a prestigious Swiss Art Award at Art Basel in both 2008 and 2009.
Orlow has exhibited widely in Switzerland, Britain and internationally, including solo projects in London, New York, Geneva, Zürich, Brussels and Vienna and group exhibitions and screenings including Tate Modern London, Third Guangzhou Triennial at Guangdong Museum of Art China, National Gallery of Kosovo, Jerwood Drawing Prize, London, Kunsthalle Fribourg, Kunstmuseum Bonn, ICA London, Whitechapel Gallery London, Shedhalle Zürich, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Locarno Film Festival and the Biennale of the Moving Image, Geneva. Orlow has published several artist’s books and monographs and has written for a number of publications. He is a research fellow at Westminster University in London and also teaches at the Art Academy of Zürich.
