Victoria Rance

Based at APT Studios, Deptford, London, UK, Victoria Rance's work is concerned with creating spaces for humans to inhabit, either physically or imaginatively. The works create a sheltering skin, a place which protects or alters the sense of self. She is interested in architecture, costume and functional objects, both contemporary and historic and the interplay between functionality and art. She records interactions with photography and animation.

She has exhibited her work extensively in group shows in Britain and recently Holland, Germany, Japan, and Turkey (Istanbul) with recent solo shows in 2011 and 2012. She has also shown over several years at Sculpture at Goodwood and New Art Centre, Roche Court. In 2001, as a curator Victoria brought together the work of four artists examining the theme of grief and death. The exhibition, at St John’s Church Waterloo, was supported by grants from London Arts and Japan 2001, with a catalogue essay by Sacha Craddock. In 2003 Victoria was winner of The Mark Tanner Award for Sculpture, the resulting solo show was at The Standpoint Gallery, Hoxton, London, September – October 2004. Since then her work has been shown at many venues including The Jerwood Gallery, ArtSway, Darlington Arts Centre, Burghley House, and One Canada Square. She has work in private and corporate collections and has completed several public commissions.
