My artwork communicates a visual language of colour and texture through ideologies of travel, social commentary, spirituality, nature. I often use a mixed media layered approach combining photographic image transfer, collage, drawings, acrylic paint, textured mediums, oil and resin. The choice of media relates to the type or theme of work.
Influences are sensory inspired by various people I have worked with as a community artist. Artist inspirations are the Fauvists use of vivid colour and rough brushwork, pop artist Robert Rauschenberg’s combinations of political imagery, with bold colour strokes, Howard Hodgkin’s abstract use of colour and texture, Ellen Gallagher’s political and social commentary through painting and collage. I also take inspiration from graffiti, street art and photography, the materials and processes interact with the explored theme in order to create a response.
