Amy Winehouse Death Anniversary Honoured In Camden

Hundreds of Amy Winehouse fans are expected to pour into Camden Town today (Monday 23 July) to mark the first anniversary of the 'Back To Black' singer’s death. The 27-year-old was found dead in her newly renovated £2.7 million Camden Square home on 23 July last year. Flowers music and poetry is planned by her fans as a simple way to celebrate her life and pay their respects to the artist who died from alcohol poisoning after a binge drinking session.

Art Below has also created a memorial to the late singer, by commissioning a portrait located on platform 1 of the Northern Line. It was painted by the highly regarded artist Johan Andersson. The ArtLyst sponsored poster went on show on the 9th July for 2 weeks and has already reached cult status, attracting messages and flowers in tribute. Overnight the portrait became iconic, capturing the attention of media from all over the world. Also exhibiting this July in Art Below’s build up show to the Olympics is Eine whograffiti seen through his symbiotic partnership with London graffiti artist Banksy. Other artists who have exhibited with Art Below include Banksy, Goldie, George Samurez Smith and the notorious criminal Charles Bronson.

Winehouse,The 'Back to Black' star was best known as a singer-songwriter,with powerful contralto vocals and an eclectic mix of various musical genres including R&B, soul, and jazz. She received blanket tabloid publicity over her substance abuse and mental health issues. Amy had completed her third album but the release date was delayed by Island Records when she went into rehab. She died At 27 of alcohol poisoning in July 2011. Winehouse joined a long line of important 20/21 century musicians to die at this age including, Kurt Cobain who killed himself in 1994, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Brian Jones to name a few. This current work of poster art will act as a focal point for members of the public wanting to pay their respect to this talented and much loved singer.

The local police have drafted in extra forces to make sure there aren't any public order offences and all runs smoothly on this sad occasion.
