Art Basel has announced their film programme for the 2014 fair. This year it will be presenting over 30 film and video works drawn from the show’s participating galleries, including works by Maria Anwander, Jan Peter Hammer, Harun Farocki, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, David Shrigley and Jane and Louise Wilson. The program is presented for the seventh consecutive year by Berlin-based curator Marc Glöde and Zurich collector This Brunner. Highlights of this year’s program include the world premiere of ‘Sequenza’ by Manon de Boer and George van Dam, Aïda Ruilova’s new film ‘Head and Hands: My Black Angel’, a Short Film Program by Los Angeles filmmaker Pat O’Neill, the European premiere of ‘Tim’s Vermeer’, and a special screening curated by Vdrome. Screened at Stadtkino Basel, the Film program will run from Monday, June 16 to Saturday, June 21. A number of artists from the program will attend the scree nings an d will be taking part in Q&A sessions.

Art Basel’s Film sector will see the world premiere of ‘Sequenza’ by Manon de Boer and George van Dam. ‘Sequenza’ is an experimental film project based on the composition 'Sequenza VIII' for solo violin by Luciano Berio. The film explores how the rhythm and structure of the composition can be articulated in conjunction with the moving image. The screening, which includes three other short films by Manon de Boer, will be followed by a Q&A with the artist and Marc Glöde. Manon de Boer’s Short Film Program will be shown at 10pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Aïda Ruilova’s new film ‘Head and Hands: My Black Angel’ features the film director Abel Ferrara and author Alissa Bennett. What starts as a discussion about the life and death of Italian film director, writer and intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini gradually develops into a narrative about love, desire, drugs and conspiracy. The film offers an insight into the forces at play and self-destruction that often accompanies creative genius. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the artist, Alissa Bennett and Marc Glöde. ‘Head and Hands: My Black Angel’ will be shown at 8pm on Friday, June 20, 2014.

The Film program will also include works by Pat O’Neill, one of the West Coast’s most experimental film makers. Showing older and newer films as well as excerpts from his latest project, the program will reflect on how O’Neill combines found footage with experimental montage techniques to create an altogether different graphic language. The artist will be present for a Q&A after the screenings. Pat O’Neill’s Short Film Program will be shown at 10pm on Friday, June 20, 2014.

Film will also feature the European premiere of ‘Tim’s Vermeer’, directed by performance artist Teller, and produced by Penn Jillette. The film follows Tim Jenison, a Texan based scientist’s attempts to solve how 17th century Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer managed to paint photo-realistically before the invention of photography. Using alternative painting techniques in his research, Jenison tests his theory on who Vermeer was and what allowed him to paint in this way. ‘Tim’s Vermeer’ will be shown at 8pm on Saturday, June 21, 2014.

Vdrome, founded by Mousse Magazine in 2013 to investigate and promote the relationship between cinema and contemporary art through an online platform, will present João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva's latest work 'Papagaio' at 8pm on Tuesday June 17, 2014.
