Art14 London, sponsored by Citi Private Bank, is pleased to announce the not-for-profit organisations that are partnering with the Fair and will exhibit there. With the support of Art14 London and its sponsors, University of the Arts London, Ikon Gallery and Delfina Foundation will all present works by selected artists who are closely associated with each organisation, all of which are committed to supporting emerging artists and encouraging public engagement with contemporary art.
Ikon Gallery will present A Real Birmingham Family, a project made in collaboration with Turner Prize-winning artist Gillian Wearing. Through its Future Map programme, University of the Arts London will showcase works by its most promising students which will be sold on the stand by Future Map’s artist alumni. Delfina Foundation will exhibit works by their current artist-in-residence, Gayle Chong Kwan, whose large-scale photographic works, installations, sounds-works and videos have been exhibited internationally to critical acclaim. All works will be for sale and prices range from £60 to £5,000.
Ikon Gallery, Gillian Wearing, Limited Edition Poster
Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, will present A Real Birmingham Family, the ongoing collaborative project with Gillian Wearing to find, and immortalise in bronze, a family to represent contemporary life in the city. After an extensive search, a panel of community leaders chose the Jones family – two mixed race sisters, who are both single mothers with their young children – to be the subject of the sculpture. The finished work will be unveiled outside the Library of Birmingham in autumn 2014. At Art14 London, Ikon will launch the project with the sale of a figurative sculpture and set of a 100 limited edition posters made by the artists priced at £60 each.
University of the Arts London, Future Map
Future Map is the leading annual exhibition of the finest emerging talents from University of the Arts London. Now in it’s 16th year, Future Map has been an important career break for young artists who have gone on to define our visual landscape. Future Map will showcase the next generation of contemporary artists at Art14 London, where works will range from £500 to £5000. Come and see graduate works and discuss their work directly with the artists. Future Map alumni include artists Haroon Mirza, Suki Chan,Raqib Shaw and Dan Holdsworth.
Delfina Foundation, Gayle Chong Kwan
Delfina Foundation will present two works by their current artist-in-residence Gayle Chong Kwan. Wastescape (2012) is a vast collection of plastic bottles and food packaging items, predominantly discarded or recycled, crafted into an immersive installation. Inspiration for the work comes from the creativity and innovation of the residents of Moravia, a neighbourhood in Medellin, Colombia which is built on the city’s unofficial rubbish dump. Babel (2004) comes from a photographic series which brings together geographical, historical monuments and landscapes in one impossible and ultimately overbearing paradise island created from food. The piece explores utopian ideals of paradise and the presentation of the exotic in global tourism, European legend and the history of Fine Art
