On the first weekend of October artists across the borough of Lambeth will be opening their studio, work spaces and homes to the public. Doors will be open 5th and 6th October from 10am to 6pm both days (check web site for dates and times of private views).
Building on the success of the previous four years we promise a wide range of arts and crafts on show including painting, sculpture, photography, textile design, jewellery and print making. Entrance is free to all venues and the latest updated map can be found on our web site at www.lambethopen.com.
This event showcases the fantastic wealth of creative talent tucked away in the borough and helps communities discover the various art workshops and studios that are too often hidden in their neighbourhoods. (Lambeth Open is also timed to coincide with the first weekend of the neighbouring Wandsworth Open House event.)
Venues vary from artists home studios to the large Portico Gallery in West Norwood. There will be a
broad range of work on show including: Gill Bank’s intricate textile pieces; Marcus Berns experimental metal sculptures; Lucy Dukes romantic watercolour landscapes; and John Bateson’s colourful paintings of Brixton life.
Organiser and artist Tim Sutton (who also organises the very successful Urban Art art fair in Brixton) explained that “this is an affordable way for artists in the borough to show their work and a very accessible way for visitors to see art and craft work, and meet the people who created them. Lambeth has a rich resource of creative people and we really should be showing this off to the rest of London.”
The launch evening will be held at The Portico Gallery on Friday 4th October, 6pm to 9pm. All members of the public and press are welcome.
