Hoxton Art Gallery have announced The Pleasure Principal - an exhibition investigating the mode of 21st century living and contemporary consumerist culture through the work of four talented contemporaries: Steven Dickie, Rebecca Griffiths, Tom Gallant and Ha Young Kim. Referencing a religion of shiny products, quick hits and internet zones the artists question the relationship between freedom and necessity in our contemporary existence.

The exhibition will be curated by Gallery Director Matthew Nickerson, celebrating the gallery’s first anniversary. Each artist will question our dependence on modern technologies or the perverse and often self-destructive culture of consuming. Art works on display will include sculptural works by Rebecca Griffiths and Steven Dickie, ink wash paintings by Tom Gallant and acrylic paintings on drafting film by Ha Young Kim.

The Hoxton Art Gallery is a commercial art gallery in the heart of east London that works to present some of the best emerging art in the UK. The gallery fosters ongoing relationships with new contemporaries through a curatorial programme consisting of group and solo exhibitions, as well as projects beyond the gallery walls. The gallery showcases art that covers a broad spectrum of media, placing importance on the relationship between aesthetic, the conceptual and political.
