ArtReview Power 100 Celebrates Its Eleventh Year Today

ArtReview’s Power 100

ArtReview’s Power 100, celebrates its eleventh year today, as it releases their view of ‘who’s who in contemporary art’. This is a list which has become tired and conservative, highlighting and honouring big buck gallerists and corrupt auction house, manipulators of the art market. As Paris FIAC opens its doors to the public, The AR list moves from London’s Frieze Art Fair, to the land of Champagne and Foie gras.

Meanwhile, The ArtLyst Alternative Power 100, is now published each year as a counterbalance to the blatant commercialisation of the art-world. The November issue of ArtReview magazine, claims to be; “a comprehensive listing of the artworld’s most powerful figures. Entrants are ranked according to a combination of influence over the production of art internationally, sheer financial clout (although in these times that’s no longer such a big factor) and activity in the previous 12 months – criteria which encompass artists, of course, as well as collectors, gallerists and curators. Regular appearances are also made by those who run the major art fairs, by museum and foundation directors, and even by the occasional critic”.

The ArtLyst Power 100 celebrates artists first, followed by curators teachers and the struggling gallerists who actually make a difference in the UK and Beyond. The artworld is a fragile sub-culture which must be perserved at any cost. ArtLyst welcomes the other side of the coin and takes note of several cross-overs this year.
