Dalai Lama Signed Portraits Raise £6200 For Buddhist Community

Bookmark and Share

Two signed portraits of His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, by the British figurative artist Lisa Andrews, which he signed on his recent visit to the UK, have been auctioned by The Buddhist Community Centre UK (BCCUK) raising a total £6200.

The Oil on Canvas portraits show a laughing Dalai Lama which, Lisa Andrews, the artist, says were intended to both encapsulate the spirit of the Dalai Lama, and portray his characteristic sense of humour. They are believed to be two of only a very small number of signed portraits of the Dalai Lama in existence and are authenticated by the BCCUK, who arranged for His Holiness to sign the paintings on his recent visit to The EBB stadium in Aldershot, England during his UK tour.

Both paintings were auctioned at a BCCUK Charity Dinner in Reading. The funds raised will go towards the conversion of the building which will become a new Buddhist Monastery/Community Centre in Aldershot.
The artist Lisa Andrews, who attended the dinner and auction, had the honour of sitting with Chime Rinpoche, the Buddhist monk, living in exile, who founded the first Tibetan Buddhist Centre in England in 1973
