David Benjamin Sherry Infuses Futuristic Vision With Edgy Romanticism

Bookmark and Share

Using traditional photographic processes, David Benjamin Sherry infuses his futuristic vision with an edgy romanticism. His darkroom replicates digital manipulations; color saturated landscapes are as voluptuous as the rainbow hued nudes posed against obsidian backgrounds. A gelatin silver printed nude – “The Center of the Vortex” –is an abstraction of tangled limbs framed upon an acid green landscape. Other archetypical images leap from melting icebergs, endangered frogs to a poignant kiss between two petroleum soaked men.  With an unswerving beauty, Sherry examines our beleaguered physical world.

Concurrent with this show, Danziger Gallery in Chelsea is also showing Sherry’s landscape photos.  Other recent exhbitions include London’s 2012 “Out of Focus” at the Saatchi Gallery and the 2014 group show, “What Is a Photograph?” at the International Center for Photography in New York City.
