Designers in Residence 2014 invites four up-and-coming designers to take over a gallery in the Design Museum and fill it with their most disruptive ideas.The takeover at the museum is returning for a seventh year. The Designers in Residence for this year are James Christian, Ilona Gaynor, Torsten Sherwood, and Patrick Stevenson-Keating. Each of the artists has responded to the theme of ‘disruption’ with a specially developed project, which is being exhibited for the first time at the Design Museum.
During the four months tenure which leads up to the exhibition of these projects, residents discuss their work with established practitioners, industry experts and residency alumni, as well as with the Design Museum’s legal, commercial, learning, development, and curatorial teams.
The Designers in Residence programme provides these young designers with the facilities to research and consider new ways of developing their work. Each resident is offered a bursary, commissioning budget and the production costs required to establish their new commission.
