Leading artist Edmund de Waal has donated a major work of art to an auction for the charity Prisoners Abroad. The work titled 'watermark, 2012' consists of eight thrown porcelain vessels in white, cream and celadon glazes, in a black lacquer lead-lined box and will be be launched and subsequently auctioned on eBay on 28th September at midday.

“Prisoners Abroad is a very special charity, dedicating itself to helping a particularly vulnerable group of people. My work is about finding a safe place for my very fragile porcelain vessels to be - a vitrine, a shelf, or as in this case, a lead-lined cabinet. An installation like this is a place of pause and contemplation and I hope there is kinship here with the values and objectives of this charity.” Edmund de Waal

All proceeds raised by the auction will go directly towards the work of Prisoners Abroad. The charity provides a life-saving service to British citizens imprisoned overseas in over 95 countries around the world.

The charity has been caring for the welfare of British citizens imprisoned overseas and their families since 1978. All proceeds raised by the auction will go directly towards the work of Prisoners Abroad. The charity provides a life-saving service to British citizens imprisoned overseas in over 95 countries around the world.

“We are thrilled to have Edmund’s support for our work helping poeple in life-threating situations around the world. We are deeply grateful for his generosity in donating this beautiful piece of work that will benefit so many in need” Said Pauline Crowe, OBE, Chief Executive, Prisoners Abroad.

The artist  will also be speaking at a private view of watermark on Monday 29th September at Tayor Wessing LLP.

" There are still tickets available to see Edmund speak at the Private view. Contact me: laura@prisonersabroad.org.uk for more information. " - 09-09-2014
