Hampton Court Palace To Mark 500th Anniversary
Sponsored post: Hampton Court Palace is considered one of Britain’s foremost historical attractions, and this year it celebrates a momentous 500th anniversary. Throughout 2015, the palace will host a series of unique events, displays and entertainments that will explore this half a century of history of what was Henry VIII’s ‘pleasure palace’, a centre of court life for more than 200 years.
The next fascinating event to take place at this historical site will be specially written for the anniversary year by best-selling author Damien Dibben - with an exciting reward awaiting those who complete a journey over May Bank Holiday weekend, with a ‘Time Quake’ quest that will be held for families. This event invites visitors to travel back in time and meet some of the key characters who have shaped Hampton Court’s prestigious history.
Between May 23 and May 31, the palace will partner with Aardman Animations to create a film that will be developed throughout the years on the website, telling the story of 500 years of Hampton Court in a mere 5 minutes, created through interactive 'Pop into' workshops, there you can add your own drawings, sound effects and music after being inspired by the palace's history - which can be used in the final film.
The summer will also see the history of this great palace come to life, with King Henry VIII putting on a show of jousting to impress attending ambassadors. This exhibition of sporting prowess will be on display in a magnificent Tudor joust, there will also be period dancing in the Elizabethan knot garden. The festivities will include two large garden parties, celebrating a ‘palace of two halves’ which will give visitors the opportunity to experience great moments from Hampton Court’s past, a treat that will also include the Tudor Kitchens cooking up some period delights.
