Isabella Blow Portrait Unveiled
A photographic portrait created by artists Tim Noble and Sue Webster showing the head of fashion icon Isabella Blow goes on show at the National Portrait Gallery from tomorrow. The image has been sculpted from, a rat, a rattlesnake, two dozen birds and a stylish heel from a discarded Manolo Blahnik shoe. It has been lit to form a silhouette of Blow, wearing an outrageous hat designed by her milliner soul mate, Phillip Treacy. As fashion director of Tatler magazine, Blow had formed long lasting friendships with the movers and shakers of the industry and her death by consuming weed killer in 2007, was one of the leading factors in the suicide of designer, Alexander McQueen last year. His memorial service was held earlier this week and attended by Anna Wintour,Stella McCartney, Pam Hogg, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Sarah Jessica Parker.Ms Webster stated: ‘‘any portrait of Issy should not be made of sugar and spice and all things nice, but of the darker stuff of life that suited her more Gothic image. Issy was a great friend of both Tim and myself, she was one of the most enigmatic, powerful and funniest women I have ever met". The portrait can be seen at the National Portrait Gallery from tomorrow until March 13 next year.
