A portrait of Canadian teen idol Justin Bieber is just one of the important photographs exhibited in a major new exhibition "Vanity Fair 100 years of Masters of Photography" presented in Vitoria, Basque country, northern Spain which opened on 20 October 2011. This is a centerpiece to the Periscopio Photojournalism Festival 2011 an event that runs until 11 December 2011. The US photographer of the Bieber portrait, Art Streiber, known for his studio snaps of entertainment and sporting personalities is aspirational and makes the viewer dream of making it big someday, the type that inspires you and pushes you to work harder and be better. His enormous talent and amazing and humble personality makes him an even bigger superstar and legend. Vitoria-Gasteiz, once again, becomes the capital of photojournalism. For a month and a half, spectacular and extraordinary images will be on show throughout the whole city, to the delight of photography lovers. This year a total of 7,300 euro in prizes will be given out to the participants in the amateur competition. As has been the case in previous years, the snapshots will be displayed in various establishments throughout the Alavese capital: bars, restaurants, fishmongers, hairdressers, clothes shops. As well as being the political and administrative centre in the Basque Country, Vitoria is an undeniable example of good living. And the capital of Alava has a rich historical and artistic heritage, an endless number of landscaped areas, pedestrian areas, ideal for leisure and civic facilities. An accessible, unique city with flair and distinction.
The festive and cultural calendar of events in the city is very broad and diverse. So, the long-running International Jazz Festival, the Azkena Rock Festival and the International Theatre Festival are three of the most renowned events celebrated in Vitoria. Local festivals are another great appeal in this city, as demonstrated by the huge festivals in honour of the Virgen Blanca, the feast of San Prudencio and the pilgrimage to Olarizu. Similarly, Vitoria is home to many museums: the Artium or Basque Museum Centre of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Fine Arts or the Bibat, a merger of the Playing Cards and Archaeology museums.
