Art performance planned for Kate Middleton visit to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices

Later this month, the Duchess of Cambridge is set to visit to East Anglia in support of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices - EACH. She will preside over the grand opening of EACH’s Treehouse hospice in Ipswich, and will give her first ever public address.

During Middleton’s visit on March 19 2012, Norwich-based community art and performance group Articus will be staging a new performance piece. In reference to the flaming heart on the Charity’s logo, Articus have decided to have a heart theme.

The performance will apparently be ‘multi-interactive’, and include stilt walkers, dancers and graffiti artists. The costumes will be heart-themed and there will be heart-shaped bunting.

Articus spokesperson explained Helen Robinson, explained; ‘Our mantra is that love grows communities and we have a flaming heart because we wish to ignite communities through arts and performance.’

‘It is great that Kate has chosen to support EACH and it shows us her heart.’

Articus have been chose because of their previous work with the charity EACH, for which Middleton became a patron in January. Last year, Articus staged a performance at the Treehouse hospice, turning the space into a magical enchanted garden with fire-breathing dragons and hysterical fairies for the charity’s Twilight Walk.

Helen Robinson, explained how ‘When we did the Twilight Walk, we were bowled over by the love in that centre. The staff there are amazing and the hearts represent everything that those people are doing; they are so dedicated.’

The new Treehouse hospice has six bedrooms for children and young people, as well as new accommodation for families to use during overnight stays. It features a multi-sensory studio, hydrotherapy pool, music room, play areas, sensory garden, a woodland walk and specialist outdoor play equipment.
