The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William attended a gala dinner last night to celebrate St. Andrews University's 600th anniversary. The Prince got up and spoke at the event, calling Kate his “art guru”. The two had studied history of art together at the University graduating in 2005. “She was much better at it than me,” William quipped to the crowd. William also said that the university evoked “the happiest of memories, of cold winters and good friends.”

The Duchess also spoke to the enthusiastic crowd, saying, "I hope you weren't involved in the fashion show. You never know what you are going to be asked to wear!" The audience was immediately taken with the friendly warmth and applauded. Kate continued reminiscing about the see-through dress that was given to her to wear during a fashion show for the university back in 2002 when she and William were students. It is said that this was the deciding moment that changed William’s outlook on Kate being just a friend to becoming his girlfriend. He allegedly said to his friends who were sitting with him at the St. Andrews fashion show back then, “Wow Kate’s hot.”

William and Catherine have both been active figure heads for charities. They set up a gift fund, held by 'The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry' to allow well-wishers who wanted to give them a wedding gift, to donate money to charities they supported instead. The gift fund supported 26 charities of the couple’s choice, incorporating the armed forces, children, the elderly, art, sport and conservation. These causes are close to their hearts and reflect the experiences, passions and values of their lives. In January 2012, the Duchess announced the first charities which she will be patron, these are: The Art Room, The National Portrait Gallery, London, East Anglia's Children's Hospice and Action on Addiction. It is thought that the National Portrait gallery will unveil a portrait of the Duchess sometime in 2013.
