Portrait of Kate Moss set to be sold at Bonhams next week for £18,000, alongside famous images by Robert Maplethorpe and David LaChapelle

A nude black and white portrait of supermodel Kate Moss taken by celeb and fashion photographer Albert Watson is set to make £18,000 when it goes on sale next at Bonhams in London.

This image was taken in 1993, at the end of a day’s shoot for German Vogue. Watson described the image of a crouching naked Kate Moss as being ‘among the best pictures ever taken of her’, and Moss herself is said to agree with him.

A Bonhams spokesperson explained how "Watson created probably two of the most iconic images of Moss on a shoot for German Vogue, and today they remain among his most popular pictures’: ‘At the end of a day shooting on a roof-top in Marrakech, Watson suggested he create nude photographs of Moss and she happily obliged’.

The Bonhams Photographs Sale will take place on 17 November, and will include other photographs of Moss, including one taken by Corinne Day – the late photographer most closely associated with the supermodel’s stratospheric success – estimated to go for £1,500. Kate Moss features again in an image by Mario Testino, estimated to sell for £3000. A number of Albert Watsons are set to go under the hammer, including his 1990 photograph of Christy Turlington, estimated to go for up to £3,500.

Other photographs for sale on the 17 November include: a portrait of Courtney Love taken by David LaChapelle, estimated to sell at £9000; an image of Marilyn Monroe taken in a Bel Air Hotel in the 1940s by Andre de Dienes; and a photograph of Frank Sinatra with his bodyguards by Terry O'Neill.

The most expensive lot of the night, however, looks like it will be a signed photograph by Robert Maplethorpe taken in 1986, which could go for a massive £50,000.
