Lambeth Artists Open Their Doors To The Public

Lambeth Artists Open

On the first weekend of October artists and crafts people across the borough of Lambeth will be opening their studio, work spaces and homes to the public. Doors will be open 6th and 7th October from 10am to 6pm both days (check web site for dates and times of private views).

Building on the success of the previous three years we presently have 36 venues and over 100 artists and crafts people showing their work, with still more to come. Entry is free for all venues and the latest updated map can be found on our web site at www.lambethopen.com.

This event showcases the fantastic wealth of creative talent tucked away in the borough and helps communities discover the various art workshops and studios that are too often hidden in their neighbourhoods. (Lambeth Open is also timed to coincide with the first weekend of the neighbouring Wandsworth Open House event.)

Venues vary from the very small, such as Stephen Stockbridge’s garden shed, to the very large Portico Gallery in West Norwood. There will be a broad range of work on show including: Priscilla Watkins’s amazing paintings of swimmers at Brockwell Park Lido; Bella Sky’s quirky sweet-shop jewellery; Philip Solly’s humorous black and white prints of cows; and John Bateson’s colourful paintings of Brixton life.

The launch evening will be held at The Portico Gallery on Friday 5th October, 6pm to 9pm where the Mayor of Lambeth will be cutting the ribbon. All members of the public and press are welcome.

Organiser and artist Tim Sutton (who also organises the very successful Urban Art art fair in Brixton) explained that “this is an affordable way for artists in the borough to show their work and a very accessible way for visitors to see art and craft work, and meet the people who created them. Lambeth has a rich resource of creative people and we really should be showing this off to the rest of London.”

During the Lambeth Country Fair held in Brockwell Park on the 15th and 16th September Lambeth Open will be premiering some of the artists who will be showing at their October open studios event.Their tent can be found in the Picnic Area which is in the centre of the Fair, stand number P2. Ar tists displaying their work will include:PhyllisTodd,Martin Grover,Lucy Duke,Kate Bowe,Gabrielle Bradshaw,Glen Heppner,Toni de Bromhead and John Bateson.
