The UK’s first super fair is set to hit London once again, offering punters the very best in Modern and contemporary British art
Tomorrow is a big day for art, with the opening of the London Art Fair – the UK’s first super fair and the world’s largest fair dedicated to Modern British art. It will bring together over 100 galleries, featuring the great names of 20th century British art alongside the very best contemporary work, from leading figures to emerging talent. Work on sale ranges from £50 to over £1 million, confirming the London Art Fair’s reputation for both quality and accessibility.
UK-based contemporary galleries include CHARLIE SMITH, Danielle Arnaud, Other Criteria, Pertwee Anderson and Gold, Purdy Hicks, Scream, UNION Gallery and VIGO. Modern British specialists such as Agnew’s, Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert, Offer Waterman, Osborne Samuel, Piano Nobile, Robin Katz Fine Art and The Fine Art Society and will once again prominently feature. International galleries include: Artêria (Canada), FOLEY Gallery (New York), Galerie Olivier Waltman (Paris), JECZA Gallery (Romania), and whatiftheworld gallery (South Africa).
Alongside the main fair will be Art Projects, featuring emerging international contemporary artists and galleries presenting solo shows, curated group displays, editions and large-scale installations. Galleries this year include: Alma Enterprises, BEARSPACE, Edel Assanti, Hannah Barry Gallery, Hoxton Art Gallery, Limoncello Editions, and THE RESIDENCE GALLERY.
Photo50 is an exhibition of contemporary photography and features fifty works – many for sale – this year curated by writer, broadcaster and photography curator Sue Steward. Steward’s curatorial focus is on artists whose practice sees them adorn, transform and deface the print, introducing other media and employing techniques from across the history of the medium.
An extensive programme of talks and critical debates in association with key partners, plus daily tours of the Main Fair and Art Projects, has also been announced. London Art Fair tickets are now on sale from www.londonartfair.co.uk at £11 (plus £1.50 booking fee) in advance, including a copy of the 2012 Fair Guide (to be collected at the Fair). Tickets on the door are £16.
