New York, NY – The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is pleased to announce special projects and programmes for NADA New York 2014. Dedicated to the cultivation, support, and advancement of new voices in contemporary art, NADA programs will provide experiences distinctive to the organization and fair located at Basketball City, May 9 – 11, 2014. Founded in 2002, New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) collective of professionals working with contemporary art. Its mission is to create an open flow of information, support, and collaboration within the arts field and to develop a stronger sense of community among its constituency. Through support and encouragement, NADA facilitates strong and meaningful relationships between its members working with new contemporary and emerging art. In addition NADA produces two fairs a year, NADA Miami Beach in December and NADA New York in the spring, both of which are free and open to the public.
Phaidon presents Beta-Local and MOCAD
Exploring the publication of Art Cities of the Future, Phaidon will highlight the parallel art scenes of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Detroit, Michigan. Local non-profits Beta-Local and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) will present individual, interactive project spaces that showcase the creative communities that are booming in both cities despite economic uncertainties. Founded in 1923, Phaidon is the world’s premier publisher of books on the creative arts.
Shoot the Lobster at Pier 36
Shoot the Lobster will present a group exhibition and collaborative installation on view in a 1964 black Ford Galaxie 500 located outside of Pier 36. The site-specific installation will feature the work of Lena Henke/Marie Karlberg – M/L Artspace, Eli Ping, Jennie Jeun Lee, Ryan Foerster, Justin Lieberman, Denise Kupferschmidt, Eddie Martinez, Jeffrey Joyal, Bradley Kronz, Win McCarthy, and Nicholas Buffon,with more to be announced. Select Shoot The Lobster merchandise – including shirts, mugs, and backpacks – will be available for purchase. On view for the duration located outside of Pier 36.

Contemporary Poetry Saturday, May 10, 12-6PM
Contemporary Poetry, curated by Sam Gordon, will present a marathon reading to engage artists and poets in intimate moments of dialogue and exchange. The program’s format will consist of continuous readings in 15 minute intervals. Participants will include Jess Arndt, Hansa Bergwell, Leopoldine Core, Ted Dodson, Andrew Durbin, Adam Fitzgerald, Corrine Fitzpatrick, Daniel Feinberg, Svetlana Kitto, Alina Gregorian, Tim Griffin, Saeed Jones, Elaine Kahn, Simone Kearney, Paul Legault, Dorothea Lasky, Sophia Le Fraga, Billy Merrell, Angelo Nikolopoulos, Zachary Pace, Litia Perta, Elizabeth Reddin, Ariana Reines, Ed Spade, and Bianca Stone, among others.
El Local Club Sunday, May 11, 2PM
Independent Curators International (ICI), in partnership with Beta-Local, present El Local Club, a conversation about the influences of the Caribbean in artistic practice and production. Taking as a point of departure Radamés “Juni” Figueroa’s Tree House – Club House, 2013, a sculpture and social platform built in the tropical forest of Naguabo, Puerto Rico; Stefan Benchoam, Co-director, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City; Pablo Guardiola, Co-director, Beta-Local, San Juan; and Radamés “Juni” Figueroa, artist, San Juan, will discuss generosity as a tool, “tropical” strategies and methodologies, site specificity, networks of influence, and the ways of working in Puerto Rico. El Local Club has been made possible, in part, by the support of Phaidon.
Artadia NADA Award Partnering for the fourth season, Artadia and NADA will award an exceptional artist exhibiting at NADA an unrestricted $4,000 cash prize and all lifetime privileges of the Artadia Awards program. A jury of two internationally prominent curators will walk through the fair on opening day and select an artist from the exhibitors featured at NADA. Previous Artadia NADA Awardees include Margaret Lee (2012 Miami), Meg Cranston (2013 New York), and Ryan Foester (2013 Miami). The Award winner will be announced on Saturday, May 10th. The Artadia NADA Award is generously funded by Artadia and NADA.

LittleCollector will return with fun-filled workshops and tours to provide a discovery element of the fair for younger attendees. Artist-led workshops by Amy Stevens and Shelter Serra explore the mediums of photography and paint. Tours with art education experts will inspire the next generation of artists, and introduce terms of medium, scale, narrative, symmetry, and genre within a fair setting.
