New Banksy Appears In Kentish Town London

It usually takes a few days to authenticate an artwork, whenever a new Banksy appears and the best place to get the lowdown is on the official Banksy website. This latest  offering, which depicts a toddler with a lollypop pulling an air to surface missile, contained in a kiddie wagon was just spotted by an eagle eyed Twitter user.

It appears to have all of the hallmarks of a real painting by the artist and would be the first new year offering by Banksy.  2012 the Olympic year is expected to be a big year for the artist as all eyes are now focused on the capital.. The stencil turned up on the corner of an office building on Oval Street  in Kentish Town (near Camden Town) and many followers of the street artist  have already identified the painting as a Banksy. It possesses all of the his  irreverent stencil features including a distinctly political statement.
In other news street artist Tox, who tags in the area and was sentenced to 27 months in prison for criminal damages last July has lost his appeal against the conviction this week. Guess there is a difference between text and figurative painting in the minds of Camden council!!!
Banksy's work typically includes satirical social and political commentary, and ranges from murals to sculpture and installation, often playing with the contextual aspects of the work. He also recently designed a 3 dimensional adaptation of a Monopoly Board with Mr Moneybags portrayed as a down and out panhandler. There are large scale models of playing pieces, including a sports car (to represent bankers) and a red plastic house with a Tox tag sprayed onto it. This is a reference to the jailed London Graffiti artist TOX and also a visual play on the toxic morgages that kick started the current recession. The work of art is has already become a tourist attraction.
The elusive Banksy has also been pushing his work in the direction of text art, as two new works appear at Canary Wharf, a stones throw away from many of the multinational banks. 'Sorry!
