Bowie posed for the artist at his London studio in 1994 after meeting the artist at a function for the Bosnia war effort. Howson said; "We went for dinner at the Dorchester Hotel alongside the Bosnian prime minister at the time, and during dinner I asked him if he would sit for me." "David agreed willingly and he was a fantastic subject to draw. I had him sitting quite high, on a 5ft plinth and at one point he seemed to doze off and fell to the floor.

10 David Bowie drawing from 1994 and 10 sketches of Madonna will be among the highlights of the sale at  McTear's Auctioneers in Glasgow on 28 April. The head studies are all estimated between £1,000 and £2,000. Howson, 54, gained international acclaim while working as the official British war artist in the 1993 Bosnian conflict.
