Philippe Starck Sues Steve Jobs Estate Over Yacht Payment Fail

A brand new luxury yacht christened ‘Venus’, commissioned by the late Apple founder Steve Jobs has been impounded in Amsterdam harbour, because of an outstanding debt. The state of the art yacht is caught in a dispute with one of the worlds top designers and the Jobs’ heirs. 3m euros remain outstanding of a 9m euro fee for the project, according to Dutch paper Het Financieele Dagblad. The project was started in 2007 and there had been a lot of detailed talk between Jobs and Starck,” Roelant Klaassen, a lawyer representing Ubik, has stated.

The Jobs estate has been embroiled in a row with the French designer who worked along with Mr Jobs to create the ultimate floating living space. The high tech 260ft-long (80m) aluminium super-yacht cost 105m euros ($138m; £85m) and was launched last October, at Aalsmeer in The Netherlands.

Jobs stated to his biographer, “I know that it’s possible I will die and leave Laurene (jobs wife) with a half-built boat. But I have to keep going on it. If I don’t, it’s an admission that I’m about to die.”

Philippe Starck was born in Paris in 1949, he is one of the most original and creative designers of our time. He has obtained many important acknowledgements such as the Grand Prix National de la Création industrielle and the Honor Award of the American Institute of Architects, he considers himself as “a Japanese architect, an American art director, a German industrial designer, a French artistic director, an Italian furniture designer”.   Starck is a legend of modern design. He’s known for his luxurious hotels and boites around the world — notably the Peninsula Hotel restaurant in Hong Kong, the Teatron in Mexico, the Hotel Delano in Miami, the Mondrian in Los Angeles, the Asia de Cuba restaurant in New York — designing the total environment from layout to furniture to linens.
But he has made perhaps his most permanent mark on design through his bold reworkings of everyday objects. In reimagining and rethinking the quotidian, he has produced some of the iconic shapes of the 20th century, including his leggy chrome juice squeezer , the reimagined Emeco aluminum chairs, and the witty Louis Ghost polycarbonate fauteuil.
Steve Jobs died of pancreatic cancer in 2011 and never saw his boat finished.
