The creators of the World War One ceramic poppy display at the Tower of London will be honoured today with MBEs by the Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace in recognition of the immersive 'Blood Swept Lands And Seas Of Red'.  Sculptor Paul Cummins, 37, is awarded for his services to art and First World War commemorations and theatre designer Tom Piper, 50, receives his for services to theatre and First World War commemorations.

The artists were introduced to the Prince and the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry in August when the royals toured the installation which was made up of 888,246 ceramic poppies that were planted in the moat at the Tower. They represented each British or Colonial military death during the First World War.

A total of 1,164 people are honoured by the Queen on the New Year list, three-quarters of whom have been recognised for work in their communities. The awards are split equally between men and women. And a further 87 recipients are named on the Foreign Office list which recognises service overseas.
