Princess Eugenie Quits Paddle 8 To Join Hauser & Wirth London

Princess Eugenie, is set to leave her job at Paddle 8 in New York and take up the post of associate director at Hauser & Wirth London. A spokesperson from the gallery announced, “Princess Eugenie has joined Hauser & Wirth as an associate director, and we are delighted to have her as part of the team,” The Telegraph reported that, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, was poached by Hauser & Wirth from the New York-based online auction house Paddle8, where she has been working for almost two years”. Euginie, who is eighth in line to the throne, studied history of art at the University of Newcastle. She previously interned at Christie’s London and regularly attends art events. Her  £25,000-a-year position at Paddle 8 was granted after a three month internship. 

Hauser & Wirth is a well respected gallery with a serious roster of ‘blue chip’ artists. It has galleries in New York and Zurich. They recently opened their fourth gallery in the English Countryside eight miles south of Shepton Mallet in Somerset. The new gallery is located at Durslade Farm on the edge of the ancient town of Bruton in the southwest of England. It aims to become a destination for experiencing art, architecture and the remarkable Somerset landscape through new and innovative exhibitions of contemporary art. Hauser & Wirth Somerset will also provide an extensive events and education programme inspired by the exhibitions, the countryside and the local community.

Hauser & Wirth is a global enterprise, founded in Zurich in 1992 by Iwan and Manuela Wirth and Ursula Hauser. In 1996 the Zurich gallery opened in the former Löwenbräu brewery building. Hauser & Wirth London opened on Piccadilly in 2003 and Hauser & Wirth New York opened to the public on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in September 2009. In October 2010, the gallery opened a new London space on Savile Row and launched a 23,000 square foot exhibition and project space in New York City in early 2013, in conjunction with Hauser & Wirth’s 20th anniversary.
