Saatchi To Host Prix Pictet Photography & Sustainability Prize
London to host prize for first time, with exhibition at Saatchi Gallery
The winner of the Prix Pictet, the world’s leading prize in photography and sustainability, will be announced in London for the first time. The prize for the fourth cycle of the Award will be presented by Honorary President Kofi Annan at the opening of the finalists’ exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in October 2012.
Each cycle of the award is centred on a distinct theme, and this year it is Power. The Jury look for photographs of the highest artistic quality, which most powerfully contribute to public awareness of issues involving sustainability, with a particular focus on the chosen theme. The fourth Prix Pictet will be judged by an internationally recognised panel of experts chaired by Professor Sir David King, Director of the Smith School of Enterprise and Environment at the University of Oxford.
His fellow Jury members are: Jan Dalley, Arts editor, Financial Times; Mitch Epstein, Photographer and winner of Third Prix Pictet Growth; Michael Fried, Art historian, poet and critic; Loa Haagen Pictet, Art Historian, Curator of the Pictet Collection; Leo Johnson, Independent consultant, documentary filmmaker and cofounder of Sustainable Finance Ltd; Christine Loh, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the independent, non-profit Hong Kong public policy think tank, Civic Exchange; Fumio Nanjo, Director of the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo.
The Calendar of announcements for the fourth Prix Pictet is as follows. In Spring 2012 the Shortlist is decided. On Wednesday 4 July 2012 there will be an announcement of the Shortlist at Les Rencontres d’Arles. In October 2012 the Exhibition opens at the Saatchi Gallery, London.
