The artist Spencer Tunick known for his naked participatory performance pieces is to feature in one of London's Museum Night events in 2014. Tunick says, "I'm extremely excited to be returning to London to make some new works and be part of Museums at Night. This time I'll be exploring a more intimate approach to nude portraiture rather than my well-known large-scale group installations. But I'm still looking for many volunteers to participate!”

Connect10 a project funded by Arts Council England supports venues to try something different in order to attract new and wider audiences.  In 2013, over 30,000 members of the public voted to win an artist for their town or city. Previous events have included Jake and Dinos Chapman playing Exquisite Corpses at the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, Gavin Turk creating an Egyptian themed art experience at Bristol Museum, Polly Morganperforming live taxidermy in Liverpool and Bompas & Parr floating Bristol’s ss Great Britain on a sea of lime green jelly.

John Orna-Ornstein, Director of Museums at Arts Council England said: “The explosion of contemporary artists working with museums is a real cultural success story - transforming how we interact with our great national collections and enabling artists to present their work to the public outside the walls of the studio or contemporary gallery. Connect10 is a fantastic opportunity for collaboration between museums and artists, challenging museums and artists to look at collections in innovative ways and bringing more audiences into museums across the country.”

Nick Stockman, Culture24 Campaigns Manager said, “It gives me great pleasure to announce such an impressive list of innovative and exciting artists to take part in the Connect10 competition in 2014. We are hugely excited by the calibre of artists taking part this year. It is bound to cause great excitement in venues up and down the country, who could ultimately win an amazing artist to deliver a memorable Museums at Night event.”

Spencer Tunick’s career has been perhaps the most nakedly participatory of any modern artist. Since first photographing nudes in his native New York during the early 1990s, the hugely popular figure has devoted himself to “performance photography”, directing flesh-barers to embed themselves within well-known landscapes and locations. www.spencertunick.com
