Stars In My Eyes and Other Spaces

The latest exhibition at Schwartz Gallery looks at 'inverted and metaphorical spaces'.

All of the artists participating in this group exhibition have created new work to the brief issued by artist-curator Ismail Erbil. Most of the work is predominately black.

Erbil formed this exhibition around the controversial Martin Creed Turner Prize-winning piece 'Work Number 227'.

"Erbil engages conceptually with ideas of space, light, ‘marking the now’, oppositions between fantasy and reality and ideas surrounding the presence or relative absence of art objects as starting points for ‘STARS IN MY EYES’ ".

"Veiled, darkened and blackened the works presented in the exhibition hint at a sense of the lights having just been switched on or off to disrupt the act of looking and the relationship between art objects and the gallery space."

Schwartz Gallery is a not-for-profit artist-run space that was founded in April 2008 by artist-curators Ismail Erbil and Patrick Michalopoulos. Schwartz Gallery is a creative space for both emerging and contemporary artists to display their work. Truly a place dedicated to championing the emerging through Open Calls and group exhibitions, this space is a gem.  You can support the artists community of East London at Schwartz Gallery located in a late 19th century industrial building complex in Tower Hamlets Borough, situated in Hackney Wick, London next to the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The participating artists for 'Stars In My Eyes' are:

MARTYNA ANNA BENEDYKA – ALEXANDRA DRAWBRIDGE – ISMAIL ERBIL – MICHA EDEN ERDESZ – ROBERT HITZEMAN – LOUISA MAHONY – ANTONIO MARGUET – PATRICK MICHALOPOULOS – TYLER MALLISON – WILLIAM O’DONNELL – MARION SAGON – KAREN TANG – KAZUYA TSUJI.

Schwartz Gallery has recently participated in the Art Licks Weekend with their last exhibition 'Beyond Duality' to great acclaim.
